SNZ Coach Accreditation Programme

Congratulations on making a start towards furthering your career as a swimming coach.

Swimming New Zealand, in collaboration with NZSCTA have formed a partnership with the Australian Swim Coaches and Teachers Association (ascta) to allow the primary coach accreditation scheme currently delivered in Australia to be also delivered in New Zealand. The key benefits of this partnership, directly relate to the coaching development objectives from SNZ.

More information on each level of accreditation can be found on the left hand navigation pane. Each formal accreditation stage is aligned with a SNZ camp.

Assistant Coach Award Junior Skills module:
designed for the beginner/intermediate coach of competitive junior swimmers (12 & under) who are still acquiring the skills needed to compete successfully. Run over 1.5 days this module will encourage best practice coaching methods in a practical environment.

Bronze Accreditation: coaches at this level are competent to plan, conduct and evaluate a range of training programs suitable for the diverse range of ages and swimming abilities found in a typical SNZ registered swimming club.  SNZ recommend that every club coach has this accreditation as a minimum.

Silver Accreditation: coaches at this level are competent to plan, conduct and evaluate advanced training programs suitable for age-group and senior swimmers competing at SNZ National Championships (National Age Group/Open National) or higher.

Gold Accreditation: SNZ Gold Accredited coaches are leaders in swim coaching; they are able to structure a performance environment that allows progression from NZ Open to international level competitions and they consistently produce ‘performing’ swimmers at an open level. A Gold Coach is an excellent manager who is innovative in coaching practice and will tailor their environment to achieve results. Gold Coaches not only utilise the services of experts to advance the swimmers in their care, they are called on by SNZ and NZSCTA to deliver coach education workshops, clinics and seminars to NZ swim coaches.
