Wellington Regional High Performance Unit

Wellington Regional High Performance Unit

SNZ is pleased to advise that we have today concluded discussions with the Capital Swimming Club, Swimming Wellington, Wellington City Council, and Wellington High Performance Aquatics (WHiPA) whereby in partnership with these organisations, Swimming New Zealand will be establishing a Regional High Performance Unit in Wellington effective from 16th January 2012.

The establishment of such a programme was recommended by the Sweetenham and Ineson reviews and has been a component of our High Performance strategy for some time. The Wellington Regional High Performance Centre will complement the National High Performance centre at the Millennium Institute and provide another option outside of Auckland for our top swimmers who wish to swim in an environment like this.

Initially the regional performance unit will be seeded with swimmers from the Capital club who will also be providing the coaching services for the programme. Any swimmers who are interested in being part of the Wellington Regional High Performance Unit should contact Rebecca Turner at rebecca@swimmingnz.org.nz in relation to this.

It would not have been possible to take this step forward without the support of Wellington City Council, Capital Swimming Club and Swimming Wellington, and WHiPA and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their assistance in making this a reality.
